Cyberbullying is a type of bullying that takes place over digital devices such as computers, tablets, and phones. Cyberbullying can take place in any place where others can view and or participate in a chat. A survey conducted on 4,972 students between 12 and 17 by the cyberbullying research centre determined an eye-watering 36% of them have been cyberbullied over their lifetime while an additional 24.9% have experienced mean or harmful comments online.  

Effects of cyberbullying 

The effects of cyberbullying are similar to those of physical kinds of bullying. Common effects include you feeling angry, helpless, afraid, and isolated. The feeling of the bullying is somehow your fault is also quite common. Your physical and mental health is likely to suffer greatly with a greater risk of developing mental health problems such as depression low self-esteem and anxiety.  

Why you might be bullied 

While they are a mountain size of reason one may be bullied, bullies tend to target those who are ‘different or don’t fit into the mainstream. Other reasons kids bully include:  

  • To make them seem tough or scary   
  • To gain attention   
  • Because there being bullied or have been bullied  
  • To escape their problems   

How to deal with a bully  

There is no simple resolution to bullying or cyberbullying. like the bully, you must be relentless, report each encounter whether it be to your parents, teachers or friends just make sure to tell someone. When you being bullied having trusted people you can look up to for support will ease stress and boost resilience. Speaking out doesn’t mean your weak and scared it means you strong and brave.
