Internet privacy has always been a concern but what is it? Internet privacy or online privacy is the level of privacy or protection you have while connected to the internet. In the last decade, the number of online threats and data breaches has been multiplied by 10. Online privacy is a growing concern for people of all ages with more and more people gaining access to the internet every day. Companies track your online activity across the internet and serve you with relevant ads to what you’re most interested in. 3 of the most common privacy issues online today include:
- Tracking across the internet
While browsing the internet you may have noticed ads following you based on your earlier searches or visits to websites. This is caused by websites and advertisers tracking your movements across the internet.
- Theft
A mind-blowing 1.3 million Australians there are affected in one way or another by identity theft. Cybercriminals or hackers as there also referred to use spyware to gather information, bank details, etc., to eventually have enough information to almost live your life.
What can you do to protect yourself?
A good first step would be to download a good anti-virus such as Avast which is free. This should be enough if you download a virus or have some sort of spyware on your computer it should alert you. Another free alternative to this could be Malwarebytes which for the most part does the same thing except it doesn’t give you virus protection.
